If you live in New York city, or nearby, and have lung disease, you have a distinct advantage over most pulmonary patients in the country. Noah Greenspan, DPT is the director of the Pulmonary Wellness Center. Dr. Noah recently made a series of videos, touching on all topics of Pulmonary Rehab. I have always said, and will continue to say, if there is any way you can make it to a live program, GO! The personal coaching, the monitoring, and the friendships you will make are invaluable.
In my experience, however, there is a huge population of pulmonary patients that can’t or won’t go. Work, co-pays, embarrassment, feeling like there is nothing to be done with a diagnosis of COPD or PF/ILD. And I will be the first to tell you, exercise is the one thing that will help you. Even if you can’t walk ten feet without having to stop. Exercising safely is the key, and finding that zone is really what pulmonary rehab is all about.
Dr. Noah’s video series is free of charge, and I encourage you to take advantage of it. Why? Because it is current, professional information. As I go through the different forums that COPD and lung patients post on, I find the same questions being asked in a variety of ways. And helpful pulmonary friends post links to all kinds of outdated, erroneous articles as the answer.
If you are one of those people who can’t make it to a formal program, but DO want to educate yourself on how to live your best life with lung disease, I encourage you to join COPD Success. You will have access to 22 learning modules, a fun, follow-along workbook, and a private Facebook group with Respiratory Therapists answering your questions, not some article spinner from a foreign country.
Here is the link to Noah’s channel to get you started. You will see there is A LOT to learn about living with lung disease. But you can learn to live the fullest life possible.
