When you or your child have episodes of breathlessness that seem to come out of nowhere, it’s normal to want to try everything you can get your hands on to be able to breathe and not feel that way again. But what really works and what is hype? If you do a search for ‘asthma remedies’, there are about 500 different homeopathic pills, drops, syrups, sprays, and other products that claim to ‘cure’ asthma. Although I do believe in Homeopathic medicine, it is not very closely regulated. Concentrations of herbs or plants can vary greatly. Some plants may interfere with other drugs you are taking. Beware of claims such as, “Increases your oxygen intake” (impossible unless you are either below sea level, on oxygen, or in a hyperbaric chamber), or “makes your body use oxygen more efficiently” (only exercise can do that). With lung disease, especially asthma, I believe it is best to focus on what you are eating and eliminate inflammatory foods rather than mask symptoms with yet another pill. Here is one thing you CAN do if you start to feel short of breath: in addition to using your rescue inhaler, make a strong cup of caffeinated coffee or tea. Caffeine contains methylxanthines that help keep your airways relaxed and open. If you feel your shortness of breath is getting worse, always get seen by your health care provider immediately.
Now, take a deep breath!

In addition, I just found a product that uses all-natural salt therapy. It’s like a humidifier, but with salt water. I remember my Mom always breathed better when she was near the ocean. They offer a risk-free 30 Day trial : Click Here if you’d rather try a natural therapy rather than adding more medications to your regime.
